Supporting independent businesses is at the heart of what Shopify stands for. It’s not just something they do, it’s everything they do. 

The latest brand equity campaign, “Supporting Independents,” walks the walk by proactively promoting independent businesses throughout all ads. From films made entirely of Shopify merchant products and featuring real merchants as talent to shoppable out-of-home, every aspect of the new campaign shares the spotlight with at least one independent business. In total, the first iteration of the brand’s new creative platform supported over 400 Shopify merchants.

SUPER BOWL STUNT #SupportingWinona

When SquareSpace featured the town of Winona in their Super Bowl LIV spot, but did little to actually support the local people and businesses, Shopify saw an opportunity to help the independent businesses of Winona thrive.

A boosted Twitter thread promoted over 40 Winona-based Shopify merchants, driving visits to their websites, sales, and more. And Shopify was able to successfully infiltrate the #WelcometoWinona campaign conversation, making up 25% of SquareSpace’s game day social conversation and having 3x as many retweets as the competition’s top post.
